How much you love your wife will be shown in how far you can go for her. The depth of your love will determine the distance.

My mom went back to the Lord on March 22, 2023. My dad is not highly educated, he didn't have an eulogy for my mom at her funeral. Therefore, I am writing this to honour my parents.

Baba, you are truly the best husband who loves Mama so much all these years (48 years of marriage). Although she was fierce and quick to anger, you always forgave her, accepted who she was, and never left her even at times when she asked for a divorce. Because you are a responsible man, you love your wife and your family. You worked so hard day and night to raise this family.

When Mama had Alzheimer's disease, you took care of her with the very little that you had while you were suffering from liver disease and joint pains. You never failed to remember every appointment for Mama in UMMC, and always remember to drive there to buy medicines for her. I would never forget the scene when I saw you holding Mama's hand and walking towards the car park in UMMC. It's the sweetest thing a husband can do for his wife in their old age. At times, when we were not around to help, you showered Mama, you fed her, you gave her medicine, you bought food for her, you take care of her, you love her without return...

On the morning of March 22, 2023, when you fed her with water, first sip, second sip... but the third sip didn't get into her mouth... You know she left already... I know how devastated in seeing your beloved wife leave you... But she was not alone when she left, she was in your embrace when you were feeding her. What else a woman can ask? Before Mama went back to the Lord, Mama said to you, "I love you very much". She forgot everything except you Baba. Amazingly she remembered to tell you how much she loves you. Whenever she looked at you, she smiled without a reason. And, you smiled at her.

The depth of my dad’s love for my mom was shown in how far he went in giving and loving my mom. The depth of love will determine the distance. “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13 NLT) The depth of Jesus’ love for sinners is truly beyond our comprehension. He went on the furthest distance from heaven to this broken and sinful world to die for us. Have you become a “seasoned” Christian in forgetting the depth of this sacrificial love? We are unworthy, yet Jesus loves us without return nor regret, but in perfect obedience to the Father to the point of a humiliating death on the cross, bearing the guilt of all our sins to redeem us. What a wonderful Saviour!

On the other hand, the depth of our love for Jesus will determine how far we go in serving and loving Him. Do we love Jesus unconditionally? Do we serve the church and the people without expecting a return? Do we give to the needy without asking God to bless us? Jesus has shown us the best role model. He loves us unconditionally; He gives to us without expecting any return or favour from us; He laid down His life from heaven, came down to earth, and literally gave His life and die for us on the cross to redeem us. This is the unmatchable depth of love from the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who has gone the furthest distance for us!
